Emily began training at SYL Wushu at the age of 5 and has been competing in national competitions since 2013. Throughout the years, she has medaled in various national competitions and was a member of the Canadian National Wushu Team in 2017. That same year, she placed 9th in gunshu at the 14th World Wushu Championships in Kazan, Russia.
Emily believes that Wushu is both incredibly humbling, yet self-assuring. As a result of the unforgiving mental and physical demands that this sport requires, she believes that practitioners develop a level of perseverance and confidence that can be applied to all aspects of life. In the future, Emily hopes that Wushu will be included in the Olympics as an official sport and become available to a larger demographic.
