Derek Cheng

Master Derek Cheng started his wushu training when he was 13 years old under the tutelage of Grandmaster Shouyu Liang, and became an indoor disciple of GM Liang and the Wuji Xiao Yao system.

Through dedicated practice fuelled by a passion for the traditional art, Derek gained a broad experience and mastered skills in major internal and external styles, forms and fighting practices, and qigong cultivation from his Shifu, which the Wuji Xiao Yao system encompasses.

Master Cheng was a national Sanshou champion in Canada (2001), and was the Canadian Sanshou team coach in 2003. He was among the first group of international sanshou judges certified by the International Wushu Federation (IWUF), and has been active in promoting Chinese martial arts in the west, particularly the Wuji Xiao Yao system.

Master Cheng currently holds a 8th degree black belt of International Wushu Sanshou Dao Association (IWSD), and serves as a director of the organization.
